2016 Traveling in the USA
Why this Road Trip around the US?
I wanted to show my sweet wife Patricia this country, and what better way than through a road trip, besides, what can be more ‘American’ than a road trip! to explore the beautiful scenery as well as the diversity of the different states, with their people, customs, local foods, landscape, and National Parks.
From Patricia Vasquez + MHD59 . The 2016 USA Tour
The road trip was not conceived as a mere “vacation” but rather as a journey to understand and learn about America.
Departing from North Miami northbound to Canada by the East Coast, crossing the US from the North-East to the North-West to Seattle, then driving down the West coast to San Diego, and then from the South-West to the South-East -stopping among many places at Felicity City next to Yuma in California, official center of the world- before heading back to Florida’s West coast to go back to North Miami.
This required lots of preparation and planning, equipped with laptops to do the research on Google map and with a book from America ROAD ATLAS -large scale publication- and some vellum paper to draw over the map and create our own route.
Patricia planned the road trip based on points of interest, special events, common sense, and an appetite for learning and adventure we both share.
Although we had a detailed plan, we were open for those plans to change, as unforeseen circumstances will inevitably come up with the good, the bad, and the ugly! Stops at scenic lookouts with breathtaking views and visitor centers along the way made part of our daily activities. Obviously, this was done not always in a straight line! It implied many detours, driving back and forth, and in some cases extending our planned stay to see some events or sites.
I must say that Patricia who was responsible for the mapping of this U.S. Road Trip did a TERRIFIC job! Not to mention the impeccable accuracy and details of the travel. Certain situations required adjustments, which ultimately led to more miles and enjoying unexpected breathtaking scenery. Hitting less traveled roads and avoiding highways allowed us to visit places few people get to know.
